As an integrative practitioner I’ve learned the importance of taking a holistic approach to medical care. To effect true and long-lasting healing we must treat a person’s physical symptoms while at the same time seeking out the root causes for those symptoms. One approach to this can be identifying blocked or dense energy that is affecting specific organ systems in the body.
The seven chakras are the energy centers in your body. In certain healing traditions, each of these energy centers corresponds to physical areas and organ systems in the body. If the energy in one of the chakras is blocked or dense, it can cause physical signs and symptoms.
How Does Energy Become “Blocked”?
Each energy center has a related spiritual truth—that is, the truth about who you are. If what you truly believe about yourself does not align with the sacred truth of a particular chakra, the energy flow in your body is blocked or dense and that can affect the related physical organs. By recognizing and changing certain belief systems about yourself, you can free this energy and help the physical healing process.
To better understand this idea, let’s take a look at a specific example.
The fifth chakra is also called the “Throat” chakra. The spiritual truth associated with the fifth chakra is, “I speak my truth freely.”
When we say we have an open or balanced fifth chakra and the energy is flowing freely, we find it easy to say what we believe. We’re comfortable with self-expression because our words come from our authentic selves. On the other hand, when we have a closed Throat chakra, we tend to think, “What I say doesn’t count. What I say isn’t important.” We tend to suppress what we’re feeling and we’re unable to speak up for ourselves.
The fifth chakra is located in the throat. Corresponding body parts include the thyroid, the mouth, teeth, ears, esophagus, neck, and jaw. Possible conditions can include thyroid conditions, dental problems, a raspy voice, or neck and jaw pain.
In my practice I work with many patients with thyroid disease. There are ways to treat it with medications, diet, and reducing stress, but I believe that opening up the fifth chakra is a key to self-treatment that people can use.
Healing Tips
- Work with a knowledgeable counselor or healthcare provider to help identify specific belief systems you may need to address.
- Singing is one of the best ways to activate and open the throat chakra. Put on some of your favorite music and belt it out!
- Practice speaking out loud words from your heart. Express ideas you’ve been hesitant to speak out but wanting to say.
- Speak out positive affirmations that line up with the fifth chakra’s spiritual truth, such as, “I am speaking my truth with freedom and confidence!”
This example is only a brief look at how energy work can be used to help with physical healing. Remember, also, that inner healing is a journey. It’s all about progress, not perfection. When you can truly love yourself just as you are, your inner healing begins, and that can manifest into the overall wellbeing you desire.
